Leaves - are alternate, lance shape, edges may curl, middle vein is very prominent.

adaptations:
Likes moist soil and can even be partly emersed in water. Huge food source for insects but many mammels don't eat because it has a peppery taste.
skarcet? It took me a while to realize you meant scarlet.
